Every Kenyan should always be responsible for maintaining peace, stability and tranquillity in the country, Defense Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has said.
Tuya regretted that some people were fully dedicated to ‘paint our country black’ before the international community.
“We must love our country more than anybody else outside Kenya,” Soipan said during a thanksgiving ceremony at African Inland Church Chebisaas Aldai Girls in Aldai Constituency.
The CS singled out an incident during the recent visit by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Kingdom of the Netherlands where some ill-intentioned group portrayed the country negatively before the Majesties came into the country.
“Why would some Kenyans write to tell the world how unsafe our country is, how bad our country is. What are we getting into?” Tuya asked.
Tuya called on Kenyans to consider whether their actions mean well for the peace and unity of the country since our children are keen to copy what is done today.
“If we destroy our country, where are we taking our children? If you destroy your country with your own hands, where will we raise our children? What will they get into?” CS Tuya posed.
She noted that our children, who will be taking over leadership after our generation, must understand that patriotism supersedes personal ambitions.
Tuya revealed the praises and accolades Kenya receives outside our borders, insisting that we must be vigilant to ensure our country remains a haven of peace.
“When you hear the praises and accolades and profile of Kenya outside our borders, it’s outstanding, but then when you come in, you hear negativity from ourselves. If we don’t love ourselves, then who is going to love us?” Tuya said.
CS Tuya told Kenyans to be patriotic and guard our borders so that our day-to-day businesses can continue thriving in a peaceful environment.
“We must love our country, we must guard our security jealously because we know what is happening beyond our borders,” she said.
The Defense CS used the occasion to challenge Aldai Girls students to focus on their education against early, unsafe sexual practices that can lead to school drop outs.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang promised to work closely with the National Government to ensure high education standards were maintained in Nandi County.
Among leaders who also attended the event include Nandi County Commissioner, Caroline Nzwili, and the area Member of National Assembly, Kitany Marianne, among other senior government officials.
