Apparently, men do cry—and some are not afraid to admit it. Case in point: entertainment powerhouse Abel Mutua, who recently revealed that he has shed tears in front of his wife more than once.
However, he admits that these moments hold a deep significance for him.
During a candid conversation with media personality Dr. Ofweneke, the veteran actor and scriptwriter opened up about his emotional moments.
He jokingly admitted that he hates crying in public—not because of pride, but because he believes he has an “ugly crying face.”
“Bro, you’ll make me start crying here, and there are ladies present!” Abel quipped mid-conversation.
However, when it comes to his wife, things are different. She is his soulmate, and he is comfortable enough in his masculinity to be vulnerable with her.
Why Abel Destroyed His Wedding Footage
One of the most significant moments he ever cried in public was on his wedding day.
“I cried a little at my wedding… nililia kidogo.”
The moment was so emotional for him that he later destroyed all the wedding footage to erase any evidence of his tears.
“You won’t find that video anywhere. Even I don’t have it. I took the DVD, smashed it, and threw it in the dustbin.”

The Only Two Times His Wife Has Seen Him Cry
Dr. Ofweneke then asked how often Abel’s wife, Judy, had seen him cry. His answer? Only twice.
“Believe it or not, Judy has only seen me cry twice. And that’s very alarming because it shows that we, as men, are not in touch with our feelings and emotions.”
He believes that, ideally, his wife should have seen him cry more often—but so far, it has only happened on two occasions:
1. At their wedding, when he saw her walking down the aisle.
2. When he lost his mother.
Why His Wedding Day Brought Him to Tears
One of the main reasons Abel broke down on his wedding day was the absence of his mother.
“My mom never got to enjoy my Tahidi High money properly. She never met her grandchild. I always imagined that when I finally got married, she would be there celebrating with me, saying, ‘This boy who gave me such a hard time has finally made something of himself.’”
He admitted to feeling guilt over being a difficult child and regretted that his mother didn’t live long enough to witness his growth and success.
His Mother’s Passing Came Too Soon
Abel painfully recalled that just two weeks after he decided to change his life for the better, his mother passed away.
What broke him completely on his wedding day was seeing his wife accompanied by her mother, while his own wasn’t there.
“That thing really hurt me. I kept thinking, ‘If only mom had held on a little longer.’
His mother passed away just days after he shared the news that they were expecting a child.
“We told her at the end of September, and by October 5th, she was gone. That still hurts me to this day.”
