New details surrounding the death of Gilbert Thuo, who fell from a Super Metro matatu and died on the spot a few days ago, are now emerging. Eyewitnesses narrated how the Super Metro passenger fell and died. Thuo is alleged to have fallen from a Super Metro matatu on Sunday, along the Thika Super Highway, in an incident that has angered many Kenyans and devastated his family. Speaking to the media, the deceased’s mum narrated the circumstances under which her son died and how the passengers in the matatu panicked after Thuo’s death. She said that an eyewitness informed her that her son fell as the vehicle was speeding away.
“I met some Gen-Z eyewitnesses who narrated to me that after my son fell on the Thika Superhighway. It was as if the passengers were alighting while the vehicle was moving. When Thuo fell, the driver and conductor came out of the vehicle to check what had happened and they went back,” she said. The distraught mum said that the passengers screamed in panic and demanded to leave the vehicle when it attempted to leave the scene. “When the passengers screamed, they disembarked from the vehicle and other eyewitnesses demanded that the driver drive to the nearest police station,” she said. “When we visited the police station, we saw the vehicle. I even ran into the driver’s wife at the station as her husband is locked up there,” she added.

She narrated that her husband was in the second week of his new gig at Kahawa and was heading home for the weekend when he met his death. “I had called him earlier as I wanted him to get a few things for the kids’ school but his phone went unanswered. Later, I received a call from a woman who was using my husband’s phone and broke the news to me. I was devastated and I rushed to my mum-in-law to tell her what had happened,” she said.
