Kelvin Kiptum’s father mzee Samson Cheruiyot claims that the athlete’s parents have been abandoned. Kelvin Kiptum’s dad opens up about the struggles he and his wife are facing. Mzee Cheruiyot, in an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, claimed that he had yet to access his son’s money. He blamed his son’s agent Mark Corstjens, from Golazo (a company which specialises in talent management) for withholding Kiptum’s money. The late athlete’s dad claimed they had a leaking kitchen, which gets worse during rainy seasons. “There is nothing they have done. If you see the kitchen, you’d be surprised. I even prayed and told Kiptum in his grave if he were to wake up and see what was happening to us, it would be a shock to him. The rain has destroyed our kitchen. The rain carries all our sufurias. We have been troubled and we have decided to leave it to God. We do not have furniture. Milk spoils most of the time since we do not have a fridge,” he said.
He urged Corstjens to pay for his and his wife’s health insurance. Mzee Cheruiyot said that his son used to renew their health insurance. “We do not have a single cent. Ever since he died, we have not received any money. When he was alive he paid for a one-year insurance for us. When we fall sick, I do not know how we are going to handle that. We are at the hands of God. The insurance expired in December. We wanted Marc Corstjens to help us with our health insurance. At some point, we do not even want the money. He is taking care of the widow Asenath only. Us, the parents, we are left in the dark. I’ll talk with my son in his grave,” he said. The mzee claimed that his house did not have furniture and had a makeshift chair made. Since our last report on the family’s lack of water, mzee Cheruiyot was happy to report that a borehole had been dug, and they had water in plenty.
“I gave them Kiptum in good faith. The house we are sleeping in has maize. You would even cry seeing the deplorable situation we are living in. With Kiptum, we were not suffering. There’s nothing inside the house I had to bring in some furniture. There’s nothing, if there is a God, he’ll do something. They drilled a borehole and I do not know who did that. We are okay in terms of water. For that, I am thankful. Let them eat Kiptum’s sweat and blood,” he shared. TUKO.co.ke reached out to Corstjens, Kiptum’s talent manager who refuted claims the company wasn’t helping the late athlete’s father. Corstjens said he was in talk with the late athlete’s father and was surprised by his outburst. He said Kiptum’s dad was still hurting from his son’s demise, hence why he is still hurt and refuses to see the help he is getting accorded. “Kelvin was a very good person and athelete. He was an exceptional man a once in a lifetime type of person. A good friend i lost. The goal is to make sure everything needs to go the way it is supposed to be. On his finances we created a foundation and people from his family, Golazo would have to trust to mak sure that his plans come true and even more important his family.”
