P Unit, the iconic Kenyan hip-hop and genge group, recently sat down with Mpasho ahead of their highly anticipated 20th-anniversary concert.
The group, known for hits like “Kare” and “You Guy,” shared exciting details about their February 8th celebration and reflected on their remarkable two-decade journey in the music industry.
Fans can expect a star-studded event, with P Unit’s Gabu teasing a stage filled with both veteran and emerging Kenyan artists.
“You are going to see a lot of artists coming in,” Gabu revealed. “The journey of P Unit…we have worked with a lot of artists and we are in good terms with most of the artists you know, starting to build the Kenyan industry.”
Frasha added to the excitement, naming prominent figures like Jua Cali, Mejja, CMB Prezzo, Kristoff, Avril, and Big Pin among the impressive lineup.
He promised an electrifying mix of artists and DJs to help celebrate P Unit’s milestone.

The group also opened up about the secret to their longevity, attributing their two decades of success to a blend of brotherhood, shared goals, and resilience.
“It has been a journey…fighting, disagreeing, agreeing, you know and learning from each other and mistakes and all that, you know? And also poverty,” Gabu shared with a chuckle.
“We don’t want to go back to poverty or asking my mom to help me with this or that because I’m the one who should be providing for her and for my kids. So, brotherhood is the secret.”
Frasha emphasized the deep bond between the group members, highlighting their long-standing friendship. “I think the best thing is we have grown up for the better part of our lives together. I have known Bonnie since we were in class 5 till now, you see? It’s like my life… you know I have been with him longer than I have been with my wife,” he joked, drawing laughter from those present.
Bon-eye playfully echoed the sentiment, referring to Frasha as his “better-half.” They explained that their strong friendship, ability to resolve conflicts, and shared drive to achieve their dreams have kept them together through thick and thin.
Looking back on their career, P Unit highlighted some of their biggest achievements. Frasha fondly recalled their two Channel O awards, including Best Group in Africa and Best Dancehall Song in Africa for “You Guy,” describing them as the “epitome of success.”
Bon-eye shared another significant milestone: “Kare” reaching number one on radio stations across Africa for an entire month, which led to international tours.
Finally, P Unit revealed their commitment to nurturing the next generation of Kenyan talent. They are currently mentoring and supporting new artists, ensuring their musical legacy continues to inspire and influence the Kenyan music scene.
Their 20th-anniversary concert promises to be not just a celebration of P Unit’s journey, but also a testament to their contribution to Kenyan music and their dedication to its future.
