Residents of Bomet have been left in shock after a 12-year-old girl tragically drowned while swimming in Kipsonoi River. The incident happened in Bomet. How did Bomet girl drown? The incident, which occurred in the Chemagel location on Saturday, January 4 at around 4pm, was confirmed by the area chief, Lenny Kirui, who shared details about the events surrounding the tragedy
. According to Kirui, the young girl was with three other girls who had gone to the river to wash their school uniforms in preparation for the upcoming school reopening on January 7. Citizen Digital reported that after completing their task, the girls decided to take a swim, which led to the fatal incident. “Initial reports indicate that the girls had gone to the river to wash their school uniforms in readiness for the reopening of schools this week, when they decided to take a swim, ending in tragedy,” said Chief Kirui. While the girl was swept away by raging waters, the other three girls managed to call for help and herders nearby heard their distress call.
The herders quickly came to their aid and rescued them. The three girls were taken to Sotik Health Centre for treatment and were later discharged. Meanwhile, locals and emergency services have been working tirelessly to recover the body of the deceased. However, the high volume of river water has complicated search efforts. Bomet County divers have since joined the search operation to locate the girl’s body and bring closure to the grieving family and community.

The circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear as detectives from Nyali’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) delve into the matter.
