A light aircraft crash off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday claimed the lives of two people, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed. Khaleej Times reports that the crash occurred around 2 PM near the Cove Rotana Hotel, a popular seaside destination.

The victims were identified as a 26-year-old Pakistani pilot and Indian doctor Sulaymaan Al Majid, also 26, who had rented the aircraft for a sightseeing experience.Dr Sulaymaan’s family, who had accompanied him to the aviation club, were at the scene and awaiting his return when the tragedy unfolded. His younger brother was scheduled to take the next flight.

“At first, we were told the glider had lost radio contact,” recounted Majid Mukarram, Sulaymaan’s father. “Later, we were informed it had made an emergency landing, but we learned the devastating truth by the time we reached the hospital.” The family expressed their grief over the untimely loss of Sulaymaan, who they described as the “light of their lives.” His father added: “As a family, we were preparing for New Year’s celebrations, but this tragedy has shattered our world.

Time feels like it has stopped for us.” Sulaymaan, a clinical fellow at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in the UK, was highly regarded in his field. He was an advocate for medical professionals, serving as Co-Chair of the British Medical Association’s Northern Resident Doctors Committee.

The GCAA has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the crash, with teams working to recover debris and gather evidence. The authority has expressed its condolences to the victims’ families, offering support during this difficult time. This incident is the third aviation tragedy reported within the past week, raising concerns about flight safety standards.
