Police in Eastern Uganda are investigating an incident in which a preacher died after a Christmas Eve prayer vigil. Pastor John Michael Ekamu of the Agule Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) in Serere District embarked on exorcising demons from Simon Ogwang on Tuesday evening, December 24.
Monitor reports that the 30-year-old’s parents took him to the preacher to be freed from demons they claimed were troubling him. How Ugandan preacher sustained fatal injuries All was well until Ogwang became rogue and kicked the 52-year-old preacher. East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Damalie Nachuha confirmed the incident.
The pastor fell after the kick but rose to continue with the service. On Christmas morning, the pastor showed up at the pulpit for a special festivity service but collapsed in the middle. Efforts by the faithful to take him to the hospital failed as he refused, declaring, “the devil has been defeated.” Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and he was rushed to the Serere Health Center IV, where an X-ray revealed cuts to his pancreas.
He died as the medics strived to save him through surgery; his body was ferried to the Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. Ogwang was arrested and detained as the officers began their probe.
