A family in Mariari village, Mbeere South, is grappling with grief and frustration following the tragic death of their matriarch. Dorcas Wanjiru, Njoki’s youngest daughter, said the suspect was still walking free.
Sabina Njoki, 96, succumbed to injuries sustained in a brutal machete attack by a young man at her home. The tragic incident occurred on Monday, December 9, when a suspect identified as Brian Wachira allegedly attacked Njoki and a friend.
Both women were rushed to Kiambere Hospital before being referred to Embu Level 5 Hospital due to the severity of their injuries. Tragically, Njoki passed away after at least a week in the hospital, while her friend continues to recover. “They were beaten by one young man on the 9th of this month of December, and they were two women.
When they were beaten, they were taken to Kiambere Hospital, and after being seen by the doctor, it was determined they could not be treated there, so they were brought to Embu Level 5 and were admitted. My mother passed away after one week because she had been seriously injured on the head, but the other one is continuing to recover,” recounted Dorcas Wanjiru, Njoki’s youngest daughter.
Why is the grieving Embu family frustrated The family’s anguish has been compounded by the alleged inaction of local law enforcement. Despite filing a report at Kiritiri Police Station, they claim no arrests have been made, leaving the suspect free to roam the community.
“Let us be helped by this government; that young man should be arrested and stop roaming around when we see him so that he does not harm others,” pleaded Wanjiru. Njoki’s son echoed the family’s frustration, accusing the police of negligence. “What I was saying is that the young man is still walking around, and we reported at Kiritiri Police Station, and even at this time, he has not yet been arrested,” he lamented.
The family is now calling on authorities to expedite investigations and ensure justice is served. Why did Nakuru man attack his mum As reported earlier, a man from Nakuru allegedly attacked his mother with a wooden stool after she failed to serve him breakfast.
The assault left the elderly woman hospitalised, prompting her to report the matter to police. The accused, who had been identified as John Kamau, now faces assault charges in court.
