President William Ruto has nominated Mary Wanjira Kimonye as the new vice-chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Ruto nominated Kimonye alongside six others who will serve as commission members: Harun Maalim Hassan, Boya Molu, Irene Cherotich Asienga, Francis Otieno Owino, Joan Andisi Machayo and Francis Meja.
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei in a statement on Friday said the nomination comes ahead of forthcoming vacancies in the vice-chairperson and member posts expected to occur in mid-January 2025, with an additional vacancy anticipated in April 2025.“The Head of State and Government has formally transmitted to Parliament the names of the nominees … for consideration and subsequent appointment,” said Koskei.
Kimonye previously served as the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Public Service under Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
She was among the nine candidates shortlisted for the PSC vice-chair post last month.
Molu was an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner until January last year when his term lapsed.
The PSC consists of a chairperson, vice-chair and seven commissioners appointed by the President with the approval of the National Assembly.
