A family is mourning the death of their kin, Samuel Kimamo Muchemi, who passed away at a Kiambu police station following his arrest during Jamhuri Day celebrations on Thursday, December 12. Samuel Kimamo Muchemi was reportedly arrested for driving while drunk. How did Muchemi die? Like many others celebrating Jamhuri Day, Kimamo joined a friend in Muchatha, Kiambu county, for festivities.
According to a report by NTV, the 34-year-old and his friend shared a few beers before parting ways, and they were planning to reunite later that evening. The situation took a tragic turn when Muchemi became involved in an altercation with a chief and police officers. He was reportedly roughed up and later detained at Muchatha Police Station. the media outlet stated that Muchemi, who was reportedly arrested on drunk driving charges, allegedly died that night while in custody at the police station.
According to the police report, Muchemi died by self-harm while in his cell, a claim disputed by his family, including his brother Daniel Maina. “He was roughed up by the police officers and taken to the police station. Within 30 minutes, he was later pronounced dead. We want to know what transpired between the time he was roughed up by the police and the time he was taken to the police cell,” Maina claimed.
What did Muchemi’s autopsy report show? The autopsy report revealed that Muchemi died from a lack of oxygen due to neck compression. He also had abrasions on both elbows and suffered head injuries. Muchemi’s family is now seeking justice for their son, who died under mysterious circumstances. “What we want is justice. To actually know the truth on what happened that led to all these issues,” the deceased brother added.
