Mjadala Afrika: Hundreds of Raila Supporters Brave Cold Night to Watch Debate at Kamukunji Grounds

Former prime minister Raila Odinga’s influence in Kenyan politics remains unwavering, even as he temporarily steps back from the local political scene to pursue continental leadership. Raila Odinga articulated his vision for the continent as he took on other AUC chair competitors. 

Raila, who earlier this year announced his focus on vying for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson seat, showcased his diplomatic mettle during the Africa Leadership Debate, popularly known as Mjadala Afrika. 

 How did Raila supporters follow Mjadala Afrika On the night of Friday, December 13, Raila faced off against two other seasoned diplomats; Mahmoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar. . While the debate took place on an international stage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, its ripple effect was felt profoundly back home. 

Hundreds of Raila’s devoted supporters, many of them youthful and energetic, gathered at Nairobi’s historic Kamukunji Grounds to watch the debate unfold. In a heartwarming show of solidarity, they braved the biting cold Nairobi night, determined to witness their icon articulate his vision for the continent.

 Videos circulating on social media captured the remarkable scene. Rows of plastic chairs lined the grounds, with pensive faces glued to a large screen streaming the debate. The crowd erupted into cheers each time Raila made a compelling argument, their pride and support palpable in the air.
