Daddy Owen’s Woes After Jamhuri Day Performance

News

veteran contemporary gospel musician, songwriter and disability activist Daddy Owen is not a happy man.

The singer shared how since the festivities he has been on the receiving side of Kenyans wrath with his personal contacts being shared online for keyboard warriors to deal with him or as netizens have famously dubbed it, “kusalimiwa,”

According to the ‘Vanity’ crooner, he has been receiving endless messages and calls bashing him with some alluding to him being a sell out for agreeing to perform at the national holiday ceremony led by President William Ruto.

However, he notes some of the citizens who took advantage of his number being shared online were actually very courteous and respectfully sort to find out why the gospel artist agreed to be part of the line up performing at the national fete.

“Jana Nilisalimiwa na WAKENYA! Sema kusalimiwa! (Yesterday, I was greeted by Kenyans! Talk about being greeted!) Gaitho shared my number so I could be greeted! I had the ultimate experience of being ‘off the hook!’

I used to think my phone is ever busy, jana is when I had a true definition of a busy phone! My phone was blowing up with calls, texts, WhatsApp messages, and a ton of Mpesa messages. (they were sending bobs)” Daddy Owen shared on his X account while opening up about the distasteful experience.

The singer went on to add, “I decided to soak it all in and returned a few calls. Wow, the abuse was next level! But some were super understanding, and we had a great chat.”

Judging how things went down and his experience with all those who acted on his number being in the public domain he penned,

“Here is a breakdown after the experience:

30%: pure abuse. Matusi nzito nzito!

20%: calls were from logical people who wanted to understand why I performed, and after speaking to them they grasped the situation.

20%: were just excited to have my number. Pure fans.

20%: Requests for lunch (ebu paste za cabbage bro… nikubaya huku nje) or people with genuine problems. Ilibidi ni paste kadhaa and they were grateful.

5%: They tried to convince me that I did the right thing

5%: Flash Gordons

In the end, those who needed real communication got it. The rest? SALAMU nilipata na nikapokea! (I got the greetings and received them)” the last of his post read.
