President William Ruto has reiterated that all cattle in Kenya must be vaccinated whether Kenyans like it or not. President William Ruto said all livestock must be vaccinated in Kenya.
Why William Ruto wants all cows, sheep vaccinated Speaking on Tuesday, December 10, during the fourth Pastoralist Leadership Summit in Wajir, Ruto insisted that livestock vaccination will boost animal health and increase meat exports.
In addition to 22 million cattle, the president also announced that 50 million sheep and goats will be vaccinated against diseases such as foot and mouth. “Those opposing the programme are unreasonable, and maybe they don’t have cattle. When we have a conversation about livestock, just shut up if you don’t have cattle. Anybody opposing vaccination is simply mad, unreasonable and possibly stupid.
Vaccination is necessary because we need disease-free livestock. For the avoidance of doubt, the vaccines we are using are produced by Kenyans. We have a large production of vaccines in Kenya, some of which we supply to other countries. Vaccination will boost livestock exports since some countries have been denying us market because of diseases,” Ruto stated.
Why Kalonzo opposed vaccination of cattle His remarks come after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka raised the alarm over the government’s ambitious plan to vaccinate 22 million cattle nationwide. In a hard-hitting statement on Friday, November 15, Kalonzo accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of advancing a sinister foreign agenda.
The former vice president warned that the programme poses severe risks to livestock and humans. He alleged that the vaccines, developed abroad, have been rejected in other countries, including the US, and could genetically alter livestock with devastating consequences.
