The Cabinet Secretary for Labour Alfred Mutua has released the names of the first group of Kenyans set to travel. Labour CS Alfred Mutua during a pre-travel briefing for Kenyans. This comes after rounds of recruitment exercises acros six counties in Kenya. CS Mutua announced the decision to pause the recruitment to ensure that those who had been recruited in the first phase travelled for job placements.
“This first phase of the first leg has been very successful. We’ve gone to six counties. Because of the success of the last six counties, we are going to take a small break so that we can do some stock-taking, a bit of reorganization, and also to be able to process whatever we’ve gotten now so that people can start traveling,” Mutua stated in the past. The CS for Labour announced that a group of 290 Kenyans is preparing to travel to Qatar under the government’s employment programme.Mutua announced on X that the first group of workers will officially begin their journey on December 11, 2024, with a farewell ceremony at KICC, where they will receive their visas and flight tickets.
The event will take place at the Lower COMESA Grounds at 10:00 AM, and then to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for their scheduled departure in the afternoon. “This marks the beginning of a new opportunity for these hardworking Kenyans, who will now travel to Qatar to pursue employment and contribute to their families and communities,” he said.
The CS announced they will depart for Qatar on a rolling basis, with new groups set to leave each day following the event at KICC on December 11. Mutua emphasised that only the listed candidates and their families are invited to attend the ceremony, while other successful candidates will be notified when their visas and tickets are ready for collection.
