Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has exposed rogue developers flouting county regulations. Geoffrey Mosiria inspecting a construction site at Parklands. Geoffrey Mosiria exposes rogue developers in Parklands Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, Mosiria said that, from illegal excavations without permits to audacious constructions over rivers, rogue developers have bullied neighbours for years and flouted regulations, undermining the city’s promise of order and dignity.
During a recent inspection, Mosiria uncovered a disturbing pattern in areas such as Parklands and South C, where developers exploit loopholes in the system to intimidate neighbouring property owners.
In a particularly alarming case, Mosiria uncovered a developer in Parklands who built illegally over a river and diverted its natural flow. The consequences have been catastrophic, with floodwaters inundating nearby properties whenever it rains, endangering lives and causing significant financial loss.
Such blatant environmental violations have sparked outrage among Nairobians, who question how these developments ever received approval. “This is the current situation in parklands where developers have constructed above the river and diverted the river to the county drainage system, causing massive flooding on the road, As President Ruto promised to reclaim all riparian land very soon this problem will be a thing of the past.
This must stop,” Mosiria said. Who is to blame for illegal constructions in Parklands Parklands residents blamed the unplanned development on the alleged illegal deal between rogue developers and some officials within Nairobi’s urban planning department. According to the residents, county officials entrusted with safeguarding the city’s growth and infrastructure, have instead turned a blind eye in exchange for personal gains by issuing permits for illegal projects, inspections are bypassed, and regulations are ignored, creating an environment where law-abiding residents are left vulnerable.
“All this illegal developments can be blamed on corrutption at the City Hall. Some of them are never supervised and some even claim they have valid permits from the county,” a resident told TUKO.co.ke.
