Hussein Mohammed, Mariga Win FKF Presidency

The ticket of Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga has emerged victorious in the race for the presidency of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Mohammed and Mariga defeated their closest rivals, Doris Petra and Nick Mwendwa.

Petra, who had served as vice president for eight years under outgoing president Nick Mwendwa, decided to vie for the presidency, with Mwendwa as her running mate, in what appeared to be a role reversal of the previous leadership.

Mohammed, who is also the CEO of Extreme Sports, was elected on Saturday during a Special General Meeting (SGM) held at the Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi.

In the first round of voting, Mohammed garnered 42 votes, 11 more than former FKF Vice President Doris Petra, who came in second.

Former FKF CEO Barry Otieno secured 10 votes to place third, followed by Kakamega Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula with four votes, Gor Mahia legend Sammy Kempes Owino with two votes, and both Chris Amimo and Tom Alila receiving one vote each.

Since no candidate achieved the required 50% threshold for an outright win, a second round of voting was set to feature the top three contenders: Mohammed, Petra, and Otieno.

However, in a surprising turn, Petra conceded to Mohammed before the runoff, with Otieno following suit 30 minutes later.

“Thank you to all the delegates who believed in a fresh start and voted for change. This is not just our victory—it is a victory for every player, fan, club, and supporter who dreams of a better future for our game,” the new FKF president said.

Mohammed will be deputized by former Harambee Stars and Inter Milan midfielder McDonald Mariga, who was his running mate.
