A 95-year-old woman from Arusha, Tanzania, is seeking help after her grandchildren threw her out of her husband’s home. 95-year-old woman Salima Saidi was thrown out of the house she built with her late husband over 60 years ago. Salima Saidi says she started living there 65 years ago before any of the grandchildren were born.
Tanzanian grandma built home with late husband She noted that she built the home with her husband, adding that she stayed on the land even after his death with the support of her in-laws. “I have lived here for more than 60 years, and I was married here, gave birth and raised my children in this home.
Even after my husband fell sick and died, her brothers took care of us and ensured my home was protected until now,” she stated in a report by Ayo TV. Saidi emphasised that her brothers-in-law have never had a problem with her living in her late husband’s home, and she wondered why her grandkids would evict her.
“I respect my brothers-in-law; they have taken care of me and my children since my husband died. He was the lastborn in his family. Today, I am being evicted by my grandchildren except one defending me now,” she added. Land dispute in court She noted that the young lady having her back was in grade two when she was married into the family.
“Right now, the one defending me is a daughter to one of my brothers-in-law; she was in grade two when I got married,” she said. “I wonder why they had the right to come and move me from my home after my husband and I made it good,” she added. Asha Mfaume, Saidi’s granddaughter, noted that the land ownership case has been in court for some time and they have a letter barring her eviction.
She noted that her cousins opened another case in court without involving them, and judgment was made, something she terms unfair and malicious. “The case is in court until today. They also opened another case to evict grandma without informing us, and judgment was made to throw her out of her house. They handled the case alone and were allowed to throw her out. How can one case be reported twice and judgment made without involving the other party?” she asked.
