According to the State, Turkana will receive Ksh1.07 billion for the implementation of 84 projects while West Pokot will get Ksh.1.02 billion for 70 projects.
Overall, the government is set to launch 1,246 projects, valued at Ksh.8.1 billion, across 34 counties. Some of the projects include construction of 177 boreholes, 115 classrooms, 176 health facilities among others.
While launching the projects, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi reiterated the government’s commitment to improving service delivery in marginalised areas.
He noted that 359 projects were completed under the Equalisation Fund, benefiting over 9 million Kenyans across 14 counties. Of the completed projects, 265 are fully operational and ready for handover.
“The Equalisation Fund is a key initiative in our mission to ensure that all Kenyans, regardless of their location, have access to the same basic services,” he said.
“I am convinced, and I believe all Kenyans share this conviction, that the spirit behind the Equalisation Fund is to enable marginalized areas to enjoy high-impact projects, now and for generations to come, just like all other citizens.”
On his part, Treasury CS John Mbadi confirmed that Ksh.900 million had already been disbursed to the Fund since his appointment to Cabinet.
He gave an assurance that all projects would be funded.
“We acknowledge that there have been challenges, including the tight fiscal space that has hindered the full allocation of funds to the Equalisation Fund.
However, we are committed to clearing the arrears and ensuring the smooth implementation of these vital projects,” said Mbadi.
