Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has disclosed that the newly appointed Mining and Blue Econony CS Hassan Joho is set to face the Senate for threatening Kenyans. Edwin Sifuna says Hassan Joho will appear before the Senate to explain his online threats to Kenyans.

How did Joho threaten Kenyans? Speaking on Tuesday, December 3, at the groundbreaking ceremony for the DEVKI Iron Processing Project in Manga, Taita Taveta County, Joho criticized Kenyans who frequently attack the Kenya Kwanza government on social media.

He added that the government will take action against those who consistently criticize its development agenda. The CS also stated that the country cannot progress through social media, arguing that critics of the government are unpatriotic. Joho also strongly condemned those predicting Raila Odinga’s failure in his bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

“How unpatriotic can you be as Kenyans if you start saying that even one of your own who has a chance of leading the continent must fall? We will come for you, my friend,” Joho angrily said. What did Sifuna say about Joho’s remarks? Speaking on Radio Citizen, the ODM secretary-general said Joho is set to be summoned by the Senate to explain why he was threatening Kenyans.

According to Sifuna, as a CS, Joho has a responsibility to ensure his remarks are measured and must be accountable for his statements. “He’ll have to explain. We take seriously what a Cabinet secretary says. He is no longer the Mombasa governor; he should speak like a CS,” Sifuna said  Sifuna noted that Joho is fortunate the Senate is going on recess this week but emphasized that senators would not overlook his remarks.

“We will summon him at the Senate and ask him what he meant by saying that he will come for Kenyans,” Sifuna said. Joho faces backlash for threatening govt critics Joho faced strong criticism from some Kenyans over his harsh comments about online critics of the government. The Mining CS’s remarks were negatively received, with some vowing to confront him. Others called on netizens to share details of Joho’s businesses to encourage a public boycott.
