Two people died on Monday in a road accident along Old Mombasa Road in Mlolongo when a lorry collided with a motorcycle.

The accident occurred near the Oilcom Petrol Station when a TATA tipper truck, reportedly driven by a male adult, veered off its lane as it travelled from Syokimau to Mlolongo.

The lorry collided with an oncoming TVS Star motorcycle driven by a 26-year-old man who was carrying a female passenger. The motorcycle was heading toward Syokimau from Mlolongo at the time of the incident.

Both the motorbike rider and his pillion passenger were seriously injured and died at the scene.

In the aftermath of the collision, enraged boda boda operators set the truck ablaze.

The fire completely destroyed the lorry’s cabin before police arrived to control the situation.

Police officers from Athi River Traffic Base arrived at the scene, conducted investigations, and took appropriate action.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Shalom Community Hospital Mortuary, where they are being preserved for autopsy.

The burnt-out lorry and motorbike involved in the accident were towed to the police station and are currently being inspected.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, as well as the importance of driver and other road users remaining vigilant.
