Residents of Kiandegwa village in Mwea West sub-county, Kirinyaga County, woke up to a shock after a three-month-old baby was found abandoned outside a house.
According to Kimuri sub-location assistant chief Julius Waweru Gatere, the baby girl was discovered by the tenants, who raised the alarm after they heard cries and went outside to check what was happening, only to find the baby on the ground, bitten by mosquitoes.
The baby has been put under the care of the Mwea West sub-county children’s office as efforts continue to trace the parent.
Waweru said the matter was logged at Kiandegwa police station, adding, “‘The suspect is a mother who is believed to have dumped her baby after her husband abandoned the family and moved away to live with another woman within the village. We are searching for the woman for interrogation.”
Waweru said this is the first incident to occur in his sub-location and urged families to try and live in harmony and avoid resorting to extremities of abandoning their children.
