A section of residents in Migori county have lamented over the frequent power outages, adding that Kenya Power does not give prior notice over expected blackouts.
The locals, including traders, said they have been making losses as their businesses depend on uninterrupted power supply to function.
Speaking to Wananchi Reporting, a section of traders, led by Samwel Odhiambo, said, “We have perennial power blackouts in the area and we need the county to intervene to get Kenya Power to find a solution to the menace.”
“Yesterday (Monday), the electricity went intermittently and in the process, many traders’ equipment got damaged. This also poses a risk to lives,” he said.
The locals also urged the authorities to crack down on vandals.
“There are those who have made illegal connections to the power supply and all these irregularities are contributing to the unstable power supply,” said resident Patrick Magero, a welder.
A similar situation is being witnessed at the Isebania border, with some residents saying they have to cross over to the neighbouring Tanzania to get simple services such as photocopy services and charging phones.
