Viutravel partners Nandi Orgoiyoot Golf tourney to honour Kenya's hero Koitalel Arap Samoei

The inaugural tournament was more than a sporting event as it was also a celebration of culture and a significant boost for local tourism.

Organized in collaboration with Viutravel- Kenya's leading travel agency, the event showcased the company’s commitment to sports tourism.

“As a company that embraces sports tourism, we are proud to support this tournament. We’ve brought a good number of golfers to participate in this event, further underlining our commitment to local tourism and culture,” said Jack Gumo, Viutravel travel advisor.

Maureen Koech, who is the director of the drama series production being launched in remembrance of Koitalel Samoei, highlighted the broader vision behind the event.

“We chose to celebrate Koitalel through golf to activate the Koitalel brand in a broad way. Partnering with Viutravel allows us to encourage sightseeing in Nandi County. The golf tournament is just the beginning of this activation; we want to engage a diverse demographic. We’re starting with golf, but who knows? We might expand into football in the future.”

The tournament also served as a platform to launch the film Nandi Orgoiyoot, which aims to showcase and preserve Nandi culture.

Through this unique blend of sports and heritage, the event successfully celebrated Koitalel’s legacy while promoting the rich cultural history of the Nandi people.

“It’s my wish and prayer that as we launch this Nandi Orgoiyoot drama series, it will make our people understand that by coming together it doesn’t matter how little, how small, how young you are, how few are you. And that’s the main objective of us being here.”

With the tournament drawing participants and spectators from various parts of the country, it underscored the potential of sports tourism as a driver of cultural appreciation and local economic growth.
