Uasin Gishu to establish feed mixing plant to support farmers

Uasin Gishu County Chief Officer for Livestock and Fisheries, Nixon Cheplong, has announced plans to establish a feed mixing plant aimed at relieving poultry farmers from high production costs in the County.

Cheplong spoke during a meeting with members of Sugoi Business Club from Tapsagoi Ward, Turbo Sub County, where he also encouraged them to capitalise on emerging opportunities to support their operations.

The Sugoi Business Club is currently rearing over 4,000 chicks.

Cheplong highlighted Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s commitment to implementing strategies that will address the marketing needs of these farmers.

“We believe in empowering you as farmers by enhancing your production capabilities and boosting your market presence,” he stated.

He urged the business club members to leverage the expertise offered by the county’s extension officers.

“We are here to assist you in feed formulation and in finding ways to lower costs associated with poultry farming. Proper feed formulation techniques are crucial for minimising feed expenses, which significantly impact your overall production costs,” he explained.

Director of Fisheries Ednah Kemei echoed Cheplong’s sentiments, expressing confidence in the farmers’ ability to overcome their current challenges through collaboration with partners and government support.

“The livestock and fisheries sectors have immense potential for economic growth, and we must come together to strengthen our businesses and maximise our impact,” Kemei remarked.
