Nairobi: 33-Year-Old Journalist Allegedly Killed by Boyfriend in Kahawa West
As femicide cases rise across the country, a Nairobi family is grieving the tragic death of their 33-year-old daughter, a former presenter at Radio 44. The 33-year-old journalist was found dead at her boyfriend's house in Kahawa West, Nairobi.
Lilian Achieng' Aluko had told her parents she planned to spend time with her boyfriend in Kahawa West, but that was the last they heard from her. Hours later, her body was discovered bearing stab wounds at her boyfriend's house, leaving her family devastated.
"She left at around 11am and told me she was visiting her boyfriend in the Jua Kali area. She did not come back until Friday when I received a call from an unknown number. The suspect George Mutegi has not been arrested. I have seen him he has come to my house like twice.
He is somebody I know," her mother, Jane Akinyi, recalled. How Lilian Aluko's family mourned her Aluko's brother, Shadrack Aluko, expressed sorrow over her tragic end, terming her death as distressing and something he would wish upon no one.
"It sounds like a movie. Being that I have seen past events, I have never imagined it would happen to my sister," her brother said. Friends of the deceased also lamented her death, which they suspect occurred at the hands of someone she trusted and loved.
Police confirmed that Aluko sustained multiple injuries, including facial trauma and a stab wound behind her right ear, and recovered a knife believed to be used in the murder incident. Her boyfriend, who is currently on the run, is the primary suspect in the case.
As police launch investigations into her death, the family now seeks justice, determined to ensure accountability for the untimely loss of their beloved daughter. "I am heartbroken and devastated because her light has been taken too soon. What we just wish is justice for her and we just ask Kenyans to pray for the Aluko's family because it is not something very easy to handle," her sister, Diane Aluko, pleaded.
