Brace for isolated storms, heavy rainfall in parts of Kenya: Met Dept

 

The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts likelihood of isolated storms and heavy rainfall in some parts of Kenya from Wednesday.

A weather projection issued on Tuesday shows that daily average rainfall of over 50mm will be experienced in some places in Meru, Tharaka, Embu, Kirinyaga, Kitui, Garissa and Tana River.

Overall, rainfall is expected to continue over the highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, the Coast and North-eastern Kenya regions up to Sunday.In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, showers and thunderstorms are expected in some places during the afternoons, with occasional night-time showers.

Temperatures in these places will range between 8°C and 33°C.

In North-western Kenya, there will mostly be showers and rains over a few places during the day and occasionally at night, with lows of 10°C and highs of 36°C.

Meanwhile, people in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, can expect morning rains in some places, afternoon showers in several places and scattered night-time showers. Temperatures will range from 8°C to 28°C.

North-eastern Kenya will receive morning rains in a few places as well as afternoon and night-time showers in some areas, with temperatures between 17°C and 38°C.

The south-eastern Kenya lowlands are expected to receive morning rains in some places and scattered afternoon and night-time showers. Temperatures of between 12°C and 34°C will prevail.

In the Coast region, the Met Department forecasts daytime and night-time showers in some places, with lows of 24°C and highs of 34°C.

Several parts of Kenya have already begun recording scattered showers as the short rains season kicks off in Kenya.

The country experiences short rains from October to December, with November being the peak month.
