Senator Karungo Thang’wa has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following chaotic scenes at a funeral in Limuru. The DCI said Senator Karungo Thang’wa would be helpful in their investigation into the chaotic scenes at a funeral in Limuru. The ceremony, held on Thursday, November 28, was attended by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and his allies.
Chaos erupted during the burial service for the late Erastus Nduati at the Bibirioni Boys High School playground, where mourners witnessed the disruption. A video widely shared on social media captured rowdy individuals uprooting the VIP tent, destroying chairs, and causing unrest. The commotion forced the embattled former deputy president to leave without addressing the mourners.
Why has DCI summoned Thang’wa In a notice dated November 28, DCI Officer Joseph Chirchir, stationed in Limuru, outlined the lawmaker’s expected cooperation in the investigation of the chaos. The notice cited malicious damage to property and injuries caused during the incident, calling on the lawmaker to help with their probe. “I CI Joseph Chirchir, a police officer attached at DCI Limuru making inquiries into alleged offence of malicious damage to property/ injury to persons at Bibirioni Boys High School playground on 28/11/2024 at 1500 hours and have reason to believe that you, Senator Paul Karungo, Thangwa have information which will assist me with my investigations,” read the statement.
Thang’wa was instructed to appear before the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) in Nyeri today, Friday, November 29, at 10am. “You are now compelled to attend before RCIO on 29/11/2024 at 10:00 AM without fail,” the notice added, citing Section 52(1) of the National Police Act No. 11A of 2011. How did Thang’wa react to DCI summons The senator took to Facebook to respond to the summons, accusing authorities of employing intimidation tactics. Thang’wa expressed discontent over being summoned to Nyeri for an incident that occurred in Limuru.
“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road but shamelessly summon us to Nyeri over an incident that occurred in Limuru. This intimidation will neither intimidate nor silence us. See you in Nyeri tomorrow at 10am,” the lawmaker stated Did the government withdraw Gachagua’s security The incident comes a few days after Gachagua claimed that the state completely withdrew his security, accusing him of sponsoring dissent against President William Ruto’s government.
Confidential sources in the Interior Ministry were reported to have claimed that serious powers in the country want Gachagua curtailed from throwing the country into an early campaign mood to help the government implement development projects. The sources alleged that Gachagua appears determined to lead a rebellion against the government and must be checked.
