Kigamboni Member of Parliament Dr Faustine Ndugulile has sadly passed away while being treated in a Hospital in India.
Dr Ndugulile’s death of made public by the speaker of the National Assembly in Tanzania, Dr Tulia Ackson.
The statement confirms that Ndugulile passed away on November 27, 2024, while undergoing treatment in India.
In August 2024 the MP was also nominated as the Regional Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) African Region.
“I have received with shock the passing of Kigamboni member of parliament and the Regional Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) African Region Dr Faustine Ndugulile.
On Behalf of Members of Parliament, I offer heartfelt condolence to the family of the late and the Kigamboni people and Tanzania at large. May God rest his soul in eternal peace!
My office (the Speaker’s office) will work with the family to give the deceased a befitting sendoff. More information will be shared in due time,” read the update from the speaker.
Tanzania President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has also mourned Dr Ndugulile with a touching tribute.
“Nimepokea kwa masikitiko taarifa ya kifo cha Mheshimiwa Dkt. Faustine Ndugulile, Mbunge wa Kigamboni na Mkurugenzi Mteule wa Shirika la Afya Duniani (WHO), Kanda ya Afrika, kilichotokea usiku wa kuamkia leo Novemba 27, 2024.
“Ninatoa salamu za pole kwa familia, Spika wa Bunge la Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania Mheshimiwa Dkt. Tulia Ackson, Wabunge wa Bunge la Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania, wananchi wa Kigamboni, ndugu, jamaa, marafiki na Watanzania wote. Mwenyezi Mungu ailaze roho yake mahali pema. Amina,” President Samia shared.
Who was the late Dr.Faustine Ndugulile
The late Dr Ndugulile was born in 1969.
He was the WHO AFRO Regional Director (African Region).
He was also the former Minister of ICT and former Deputy Minister of Health in Tanzania in 2017.
He worked as a practicing medical doctor, and later as a public health specialist, a politician and a lawyer.
His popularity grew tremendously during the COVID-19 pandemic when he openly criticized the use of ‘nyungu’ as a treatment for COVID-19 at the time when it was being encouraged; he was later removed from his position as the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare, many believing this to be the reason.
He was among the few parliamentarians who publicly advocated for scientifically proved preventive measures for COVID-19 including handwashing, use of sanitizers, wearing masks and eventually taking the COVID-19 vaccine.
He was elected on a CCM ticket.
