Rigathi Gachagua Reportedly Turns Down Uhuru’s Offer to Join Jubilee Party, Sets Eyes on New Outfit

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua plans to announce his next political move in January 2025 after the court’s verdict on his impeachment case. Rigathi Gachagua reportedly turns down former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s offer to join the Jubilee party. This move is intended to ensure that the country’s former second-in-command remains influential in the political landscape.

Did Rigathi Gachagua reject offer to join Jubilee? A report by TV47 indicates that Gachagua reportedly rejected former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s offer to join, revive, and rebrand the struggling Jubilee Party.  Gachagua actively contested against Uhuru’s Jubilee Party, which is in the Azimio coalition, in the 2022 General Election while running alongside William Ruto under the Kenya Kwanza banner. If the court rules in his favour, the former deputy president reportedly prefers to form his own political party to advance his agenda.

It is also reported that Uhuru planned to endorse Gachagua as the Mt. Kenya kingpin during Reverend Peter Kimani’s ordination in Embu on Saturday, November 16, but the plans were halted at the last minute, possibly due to Ruto’s confirmation of his attendance. Political analyst Macharia Munene emphasized the urgency of Gachagua joining a political party now that he has been ousted from office.

“If the courts clear him, then he’d want to be the head of the party and build that party to be a strong force. This is one of the reasons why he has been speaking positively about ensuring that the Mt. Kenya region is not short-changed again,” Munene told TV47.
