Police have arrested a 28-year-old woman accused of killing her two-week-old baby boy in the Kadel area of Rachuonyo North sub-county. . The incident happened in Homa Bay. The tragic incident, which occurred on Friday, November 22, has left residents in shock and disbelief.
How did residents learn of Homa Bay incident? According to reports, the woman, a mother of three, is alleged to have taken the infant’s life inside her house before dumping the body in a nearby maize plantation.
Speaking to TUKO.coke, witnesses said they became suspicious after seeing her enter the plantation carrying the baby and later leaving without the child. Concerned, they alerted authorities, who promptly responded.
“We were informed by members of the public who noticed the suspicious behaviour. Their quick action allowed us to respond swiftly and recover the infant’s body,” said Rachuonyo North Sub-County Police Commander Lydia Parteiyie who commended the community for their vigilance.
Some residents expressed their devastation over the incident. “She always seemed like a calm person. We’re devastated and hope justice will be served,” one neighbour said. The lifeless body of the baby was retrieved from the maize field and transported to a local morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the suspect who was taken into custody at Kendu Bay Police Station will undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. “This is a heartbreaking and unfortunate incident. We will conduct thorough investigations to determine what may have driven the mother to commit this act,” Commander Parteiyie added.
