Late Kikuyu Benga singer John De’Mathew’s son with his second wife Carolyne Waithera, Tyrese Thiiru, completed his high school studies on Friday, and his family could not hide their joy.

Tyrese, who is the first child of the late De’Mathew with Waithera, was among the over 900,000 students who sat for the KCSE 2024 exams. He was a student at the prestigious Thika High School in Kiambu County.

De’Mathew’s widow has defended picking her son in a Limo.

Just like many other students who completed their high school studies last week, Tyrese was picked from school by his family. How he was picked from school however stood out as he got a royal reception from the family.

“Guys, Mtoto wangu amemaliza shule. I am a proud woman today. I am so excited. I am going to pick my son at Thika High School, Mtoto wangu amemaliza shule. My Lord, what will I tell God? Nitaambia Mungu nini sasa aki? Kumshukuru haiwezi tosha,” an overly excited Ms. Waithera said as she headed to pick her son from school.

The new form-four leaver in town was picked from school in a white BMW limousine with posters written “Congrats, Tyrese Thiiru.”

In addition, a red carpet was spread down for him, and well-built bodyguards escorted him around as he was being received by the family.

“Have you seen what the Lord has done? This is what I prayed for,” Ms. Waithera said after as she picked her son.

How the family decided to pick Tyrese was received with mixed reactions, with some netizens congratulating the Form Four leaver and some even criticizing the mother.

Tyrese got a loyal reception

John De’Mathew’s widow was however quick to respond to critics, noting that she is a proud mother and, regardless of the outcome of the exams, she will remain happy for her firstborn.

“Aty atapata D-, ata akipata X,Y,Z mtoto ni wangu,” she said.

She added, “Mliskia ata akipata W ama Q mtoto ni wa nani? Nani analipa fees? Congratulations, my Edward.”
