Madam Hellen Afude Kafuna has shared the heartbreaking story of losing her two grandchildren within days of each other. The babies were buried together at their family home in Chebwai, near the Butali Sugar Company. The Kidundu Primary School principal recounted the devastating series of events that saw her daughter lose two kids back to back.
How Kakamega family lost 2 babies days apart In an emotional interview, she disclosed that tragedy started on Wednesday, November 13, when her 10-year-old grandson fell ill. “My daughter’s son became unwell, and I rushed him to Itando Hospital,” she started. The boy’s mother, who had recently undergone a Caesarean section to deliver a baby girl, was recovering and unable to accompany her son.
Kafuna narrated how she stayed by the boy’s side as he was placed on a drip at the hospital. “He was on the drip for three hours, but he didn’t make it,” she said with evident sorrow. Grandma recounts day they lost 2nd baby The tragedy compounded when the family went to the mortuary to make arrangements for the boy’s burial. That same day, her daughter Tabitha’s two-week-old baby developed a fever and was admitted to Malava Hospital.
“We were still trying to process the boy’s loss when we received the news,” Kafuna said. She recalled the heartbreaking moment they were met by people wailing at home as they returned to the reality that the two-week-old baby girl had also passed on. Where were the 2 babies buried? A dark cloud hovered over Chebwai, near the Butali Sugar Company, as colleagues, friends, and relatives gathered to bury the little ones. The double tragedy left the family and the school community reeling, with many offering condolences and support to the bereaved.
