18-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Scolded by Mother for Returning Home Late
A Grade 12 pupil reportedly took her own life following a reprimand from her mother for returning home late from a tuition session Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident, which has left the community in shock. A report filed by the victim’s father indicated that his 18-year-old daughter had died with a scarf attached to a roof plank in her bedroom.
Mwebantu records that the incident occurred around 9.30 hours after the victim attended her overnight tuition sessions. On the fateful day, she returned home around 6.30 pm, and her mother scolded her. The police officer further explained that the girl entered her room and never returned. Moments later, her mother went to check on her and discovered her daughter hanging from the roof with a scarf.
The distraught mother immediately informed her husband, who then reported the matter to the police station. "Police officers responded swiftly to the scene and inspected the body, which showed no signs of visible physical injuries," Mr Mweemba told the media. The body has since been transferred to the mortuary as investigations into the case commence.
