Police based at Kilimani Police Station have arrested a woman suspected of being behind the drugging of revellers in Nairobi bars. In a statement on Sunday, November 17, police announced the arrest of Consolata Nyangai for allegedly spiking a Chadian national after a night of merrymaking at Gemini and Quivers clubs.
“Detectives based at Kilimani in Nairobi are holding a suspect of stupefying identified as Consolata Nyangai, notorious for the drugging of revellers across various drinking joints in Nairobi. Her arrest resulted from a report filed at Kilimani Police Station by a Chadian national, who informed detectives that a city damsel had washed his wallets after a night of merrymaking at Gemini and Quivers clubs,” police said.
On November 9, the Chadian nation retreated to his residence at Spring Gardens Apartments in the company of Consolata after a night full of fun. According to the police, after reaching the house, the woman drugged the foreigner and disappeared with UDD 4,000 (KSh, 516,000), KSh 10,000, a Samsung S20 and a Corn C105 phone. Detectives tracked Constolate and arrested her in the Hunters area within the Kasarani sub-county. They recovered the stolen phones that the complainant had positively identified.
After a search at the suspect’s house, the police discovered a newly bought TV worth KSh 107,000 and a cooker worth KSh 55,000. “Also notable around Consolata’s base was a newly purchased 75″ Samsung TV worth KSh 107,000 as per the receipts, and a Ramtons cooker worth KSh 55,000. The items, both which were purchased after the incident, are believed to be proceeds of crime,” police stated.
Police are still trying to establish Consolata’s true identity, and they found two national identity cards, one Kenyan and one Uganda, both bearing different names but the same photograph. “Further investigation uncovered two national identity cards—one Kenyan and one Ugandan—both bearing different names but the same photograph of Consolata Nyangai which raises serious questions about her true identity that is still under investigation,” the statement added. Police urged Kenyans to stay vigilant, particularly in social settings, as criminal activities continue to rise in urban areas as we approach the festive season.
