Kiambu lady Charlette Vidambu (l) opens up about her roommate Sharon Atieno (r).

A friend of a young lady whose body was discovered in a banana plantation in Kiambu county has spoken. Charlette Vidambu, who doubles up as Sharon Atieno’s roommate, recounted the events on the fateful day. Vidambu, who was emotional following the demise of her friend, fondly known as Nicole, shared making calls in search of her friend. How old was Atieno when she died? “I called her place of work to enquire if she had gone to work that day but was told she had not shown up at her workplace,” Vidambu said.  She tried to reach 19-year-old Atieno later, but her efforts to connect with the teenager bore no fruits

The next time she heard the news about her friend was her brutal death, which broke her heart, recounting a deep conversation they had. “Normally, it is hard for her because it is usually a time nearing her mother’s death anniversary. She usually gets some fear or stress,” she said. Why did Atieno leave home late at night? Atieno left home at 10pm to take a call and walk to get some fresh air, not knowing it would be her last time to leave the house.

She was brutally murdered, with her body being abandoned at an elderly man’s banana plantation. One of her kin, who saw her body hours after it had been dumped, expressed great pain, adding that Atieno was mercilessly murdered. He appealed for justice from the government following the harrowing incident that left the deceased’s family in pain.
