Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa |
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa has shared insights into his life beyond the corporate world, including his family, fitness routine, and favorite meals.
Ndegwa, who is married to Jemimah Ndegwa and a father of one, follows a pragmatic approach in both work and personal life.
His philosophy is simple: “I like getting things done. The best strategy is about solving the problems of our customers, and this is part of my DNA. I also like things simple,” he told Business Daily in a prior interview.
In a recent interview with Mpasho, Ndegwa humorously disclosed that he has been banned from the kitchen, despite enjoying cooking and considering himself a great cook.
While he didn’t reveal who set this restriction, he noted that he still appreciates good food, listing chapati with beef stew or chicken as his favorite meal.
However, his least favorite food is potatoes. For snacks, he enjoys mandazi, a popular Kenyan pastry.
When it comes to fitness, Ndegwa keeps an active routine. He runs three times a week, covering a total of 25 kilometers, often choosing the scenic trails of Karura Forest.
He also includes morning exercises in his routine. Ndegwa is committed to balancing work, family, and fitness, going to bed around 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. and rising early at 5:30 a.m.
On professional growth and self-belief, he shared words of encouragement for young people: “My role models growing up were ordinary teachers in my school. You are more than what you think. Believe in yourself and have ambition.”
