Police in Kenya’s southern neighbour have launched a manhunt for a motorist accused of being the centre of a deadly road crash that claimed 14 lives. Fourteen people perished in a nasty road crash in the Tabora region, Western Tanzania.
The accident occurred on Thursday, November 8, on the Itobo-Bukene Road, Nzega District. According to the police, a Toyota Hiace mini passenger car hit a truck, a Mitsubishi Fuso, from behind and went under the hood of the heavy mover.
The authorities attributed the crash to the alleged negligence of the driver, who they established did not take road safety precautions. The fatalities were eight men, four women, and two children; nine people sustained injuries of varied degrees.
The driver of the small car took off immediately after the crash. “The cause of the accident is the negligence of the Hiace driver who was trying to pass the truck in front of him and failed to control his car and hit it from the rear on the right side and went under the gap of the truck which caused deaths and injuries,” police said.
The bodies were ferried to the Nzega District Hospital morgue. According to the police, two of the injured persons were admitted to the same hospital (Nzega), with seven others with critical injuries being referred to the Nkinga Referral Hospital.
