The Ministry of Health (MoH) has shut down Omnicare Medical Limited for malpractice. Lucy Wambui’s death is being investigated. What did MoH say about Body By Design? The company operates Body By Design, which conducted a liposuction procedure on Lucy Wambui before her death. In a statement on Saturday, November 2, MoH said that the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council has conducted a comprehensive investigation into its practices and standards.
“The findings revealed serious non-compliance with medical institution regulations,” the statement read. The inspection found that the facility was operating below the required medical standard and failing to meet patient safety regulations. “A thorough investigation is ongoing about the institution staff’s involvement in Wambui’s treatment,” MoH said, noting that they will take appropriate action based on the results. Kenyans urged the MoH to take a more proactive approach in its oversight role, @JaKompyuta: “Do we have qualified registered plastic surgeons in Kenya?
Maybe that’s where you need to tell Kenyans.” @brenda_ogo30333: “This happens when a system is corrupt. The people responsible for failed inspections should also be arrested.” @mallan_carol: “You must wait for an incident for such drastic cosmetic action? You know these sham entities exist!” @mwoha_ke: “Because a rich person died. What about the plight of poor Kenyans dying every day because of SHA inefficiency?” @omwami_jp: “Reactionary. Have you deployed standards inspectors to audit licenced health service providers?” @SidiLydia: “That’s good news.”
