President William Ruto has gazetted the appointment of Musalia Mudavadi as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior. Mudavadi, who is also the CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, will hold the post in an acting capacity, taking over from Kithure Kindiki, who awaits swearing-in as the new deputy president. “Pursuant to Article 152 (5) (a) of the Constitution, Hon. Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, is assigned as the Acting Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and National Administration,” read the notice.
New DP’s swearing-in ceremony Kindiki’s inauguration will be undertaken at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) at 10am. Expected to preside over the fete in front of President William Ruto and other ranking state dignitaries and the diplomatic corps is Chief Justice Martha Koome. Upon taking office, Kindiki will address the country in his maiden speech, in which he is expected to accept his new roles and outline his approach to the new mandate accorded to him. Mudavadi’s maiden role in his new docket was declaring Friday, November 1, a public holiday.
He said the day would be dedicated to the inauguration ceremony of the deputy president-designate. This would not be the first instance in which the president entrusts Mudavadi with roles of critical dockets after falling vacant.
