Only identified as Li, the woman welcomed a boy and a girl via caesarean section at the Xi’an People’s Hospital in Shaanxi province, which described the event as a “one in a million” occurrence, according to a report by CNN.

The hospital noted that it is extremely rare for twins to be conceived naturally in each cavity of the uterus, and even rarer for them to be carried to term. What led to Li's safe, healthy delivery? With “close and strict” medical monitoring, she successfully gave birth at eight-and-a-half months, delivering a boy weighing approximately 3.71 kilograms and a girl weighing around 2.41 kilograms. Global News reported that the medical facility reported that Li was filled with joy following the delivery since she had lost her previous pregnancy. According to the Cleveland Clinic, uterine didelphys is one of the rarest uterine abnormalities, affecting only 0.3% of the population.
