Thika: Slain Girl's Male Friend in Hiding after Her Brutal Murder, Police Say

 

Police are on the hunt for a male suspect believed to be behind the brutal murder of Seth Nyakio. Nyakio left her home in Kamakis, Kiambu County, to visit a friend in Thika but never returned. The body of the 23-year-old was discovered in a rented room in Thika’s Biafra estate on the night of October 13. Why was Nyakio in Thika? Nyakio had left her home in Kamakis, Kiambu County, to visit a friend in Thika the previous day before she was found dead.

 Thika West Sub-County police boss Laurence Muchangi revealed that a female friend who discovered the body had cooperated with the police. Daily Nation reports that investigators are now pursuing a male suspect, believed to have gone into hiding after the murder. "We suspect that the motive was linked to a previous relationship where the male suspect had been jilted by the deceased," Muchangi said. How was Nyakio's body when it was discovered?

 Investigators believe that the killer may have lured the young woman to Thika under pretences and taken her life Muchangi added that Nyakio’s body bore signs of a struggle, and investigators are treating the case as both a murder and sexual assault. Nyakio’s mother, Lucy Njeri, a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kirinyaga, expressed deep anguish over her daughter’s tragic death. Njeri described her daughter as a vibrant young woman who had recently graduated and was job hunting. Njeri's last conversation with Nyakio She recalled their last conversation, which took place on the evening of October 12, when Nyakio reassured her mother that she was safe. 

However, when Nyakio became unreachable the following day, Njeri grew increasingly worried. Her worst fears were confirmed when a phone call from one of Nyakio’s friends delivered the devastating news. After learning that her daughter had been found dead, Njeri rushed to Thika where she was led to the scene. "There she was… naked, with blood stains on her private parts and signs of strangulation," Njeri painfully recalled. Nyakio was Njeri's only daughter Overcome with grief, she collapsed upon seeing her daughter’s lifeless body. 

Njeri described the incident as traumatic, adding that Nyakio, a Zetech University graduate, was her only child. Authorities confirmed that Nyakio’s body had been taken to the General Kago mortuary. As of the time of filing this report, an investigation led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had been launched.
