Ruto, Gachagua attend different church services

President William Ruto and impeached deputy Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday attended church services at different locations.

The president attended Sunday mass at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Moiben, Uasin Gishu.

Gachagua attended church service at St. James ACK Cathedral in Kiambu Town in his Central Kenya backyard.

Gachagua is making a first church appearance since he was impeached by the Senate last week.

The majority of Senators voted to confirm five of the 11 charges that were brought against him by the National Assembly.

Gachagua and Ruto were accompanied by their loyalists during the Sunday services as they continued to battle in Court where Gachagua challenged his impeachment.

Gachagua is accompanied by his wife Pastor Dorcus Rigathi, former UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala and Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang'wa among others.

Ruto is in the company of over 20 MPs including those allied to the opposition party, ODM, whose members were incorporated into government under the broad-based arrangement.

The President's wife, First Lady Rachel Ruto was not in the Moiben church service.

Kithure Kindiki, who was approved by Parliament to take Gachagua's position continued to maintain a low profile.

Kindiki was last seen in public when he received President Ruto in Kwale during this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations.

At the event, Kindiki received the president and sat next to him, taking Gachaua's official sitting place as the country's second in command.

Gachagua was at the time hospitalised at Karen Hospital but was discharged the same day to recuperate at home.

The President and Gachagua's allies are expected to sustain their political rhetoric during the church service.

Gachagua is battling for his political survival in court after he challenged his impeachment.

A three-judge bench will on October 29 start hearing an application seeking to lift conservatory orders blocking the new DP from being sworn in.

The three-judge bench on Friday to recuse themselves from the case.

Gachagua had applied to have the judges recuse themselves citing bias.

He has signalled commitment to fight all the way to save his career
