President William Ruto has condoled with Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka following the loss of his mother.
Lusaka said Mama Rhoda Namaemba died on Sunday morning.
In a statement on X, Ruto described her as a hardworking and God-fearing person who lived a great life.
“Our condolences to Governor Ken Lusaka for the loss of his beloved mother, Lay Canon Rhoda Namaemba. Mama Rhoda was hardworking, God-fearing and focused. We celebrate the great life that she led and the many memories that she leaves behind,” the President said.
“May it be a comfort to the family and the people of Bungoma that we are praying for them at this sad time. Rest in Peace, Mama Rhoda.”
In his tribute to his late mother, Governor Lusaka mourned Mama Rhoda as an icon who shaped their life and became a great pillar in the family.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing on of my mother, Lay Canon Rhoda Namaemba Lusaka this morning,” he said.
A lay canon is a member of chapter of a cathedral or collegiate church who is not an ordained clergyman or clergywoman but shares in governance and oversight across the whole of the cathedral's work, including some attendance at and appropriate participation in cathedral worship.
As a staunch ACK church member, Governor Lusaka said his mother was an educator and a strong synod member in the church.
“My mum has been an icon and a great pillar in the family since the passing on of our dad way back in 1995,” Lusaka said.
The governor said details regarding her final journey will be issued in due course.
“Amidst all this sadness, we appreciate and celebrate her life,” he said.
National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang'ula, condoled with the governor and his entire family too.
Wetang'ula said Mama Rhoda was a dedicated, disciplined and educated person who impacted the lives of many people in society.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to my friend, Governor Kenneth Lusaka and the entire family on the passing of his mother, Mayi (Mama) Rhoda Namuemba Lusaka. She was a remarkable woman whose dedication to discipline, education, and faith has left a lasting impact on many,” he said.
“May her legacy continue to inspire us all. On behalf of the National Assembly, the Ford Kenya Party and my family, we send our thoughts and prayers to the Lusaka family during this difficult time. May Mayi Rhoda rest in eternal peace,” the speaker said.
