Njugush Astonishingly Backs Raila Odinga’s Opponent for AUC Bid: “Africa Ni Yetu”

Kenyan comedian Njugush has backed Raila Odinga’s opponent, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti, for the oncoming African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship elections. Njugush supports Raila's opponent for AUC bid.  Njugush did not shy away from disclosing his support for Mahamoud in a viral tweet, ignoring Raila. The comedian asked Kenyans to pray for Djibouti's candidate to get the AUC seat. He noted that Africa needed to unite as one. "Remember to pray for our sister country Djibouti to get the AUC. Asanteni. We stand as one Africa. Africa ni yetu sote. #AfricaKwanza," he wrote.

In the voting scheduled for February 2025 in Addis Ababa, Raila aspires to become the next AUC chairman. What are Raila's chances in the AUC race? Diplomacy analyst Ahmed Hashi said Raila would have it rough at the hands of the Djibouti candidate in the AUC race. He said all odds were already against the Kenyan candidate whose bid was officially launched in August. Hashi argued in his analysis that Raila features among the leaders the African youth currently disdain for supposedly mismanaging the continent in their various capacities.

According to him, the restiveness among the continent's youth could inform the ultimate vote in the AU's General Assembly; he implied that African heads of state would seek to appease the young population by voting for a seemingly neutral leader not aligned with the status quo -as Raila is with the Kenyan government, which faced rebellion a few months back- so as to quell the political crises and coups emanating from the young people's rage.
