Nikita Kering Opens up About Entering Coffin While Shooting Video: "Crazy Experience"

Kenyan artiste Nikita Kering recently gave insight into her decision to feature herself inside a coffin in the music video for her 2022 hit, On Yah. Nikita Kering on why she filmed herself inside a coffin. After frequently being asked about this unusual choice, Nikita finally clarified the meaning behind the scene and the creative process involved. “Everybody asks why I entered this coffin,” she said, hinting at her exasperation over the persistent inquiries. Explaining further, the musician shared:  “I think right now, the music video and the song don’t really make sense together, and that is because they are not supposed to, well, at least for now. Until my EP, The Other Side, comes out. 

This video was a total explanation of what goes on in the EP.” Nikita Kering - What does sleeping inside coffin mean? The singer elaborated that the coffin scene symbolises “the killing of the old…No, let me not say killing. It is more of letting go of the past and embracing this bold future.” She described the experience of filming inside the coffin as “scary,” but clarified: “Let me not say scary because we grew up watching Vampire Diaries and all the crazy stuff. So to me, the symbolism behind it all meant so much more than what it looked like in the video.”
