Simisola Bolatito Kosoko better known by her stage name Simi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress.

She has  advises women to stop raising their daughters to be dependent on men.

“Please do not raise your daughters to think that when they grow up all they have to do is rely on someone, as if they do not need to learn to take care of themselves. It’s good that when someone is spoiling you, you are also in a position to spoil them and yourself too.”

Simi shared how spoilt she was growing up given she was an only child and the last born in her family.

But after school, she had one thing that she wanted to fight for and she knew that it was music.

Simi wanted to become her own woman and stand on her own feet, so she stopped asking for money from her mom.

She also told her mom that she didn’t want to work but make music.

“So after school I told my mom, I don’t wanna work, I wanna do music. I stopped asking my mom for money. It was time for me to stand on my own two feet and be my own woman.” She said.

Adding that, “It was one of the hardest decision at the time but it was also one of the most beautiful thing I ever did because music belonged to me, it was mine. I wasn’t doing it to make a point to nobody.”

Simi also continued to urge women that there is security in knowing that they can provide for themselves.

“A woman’s economic power is about protecting herself, fending for herself and being able to confidently acknowledge that she’s a complete person. You deserve good things and you need to occupy space.”

She also advises on the need for society to support women who are thriving an opportunity instead of being intimidated by it.
