MP Daniel Manduku Claims ODM Has Fronted Junet Mohamed for Interior CS: "It May Work or Not"

Junet Mohamed

Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku has shed light on the behind-the-scenes lobbying to replace Kithure Kindiki as the Interior Cabinet secretary after his nomination as the new deputy president. Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku said ODM is pushing for Junet Mohamed to replace Kithure Kindiki.  Kindiki's position is expected to be vacant after the National Assembly approved his nomination following Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment. In an interview on K24 on Friday, October 25, Manduku disclosed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party had put forth Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as a candidate for the powerful Interior CS role.

He noted that the decision ultimately lies with President William Ruto, who has the final say on the appointments. Manduku revealed that ODM had previously proposed Homa Bay governor and ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga for the deputy president role. "We've fronted Junet Mohamed. It is the prerogative of the president to decide. Just like we'd given Governor Wanga's name for Deputy President, but it did not work, and we've given the name of Junet Mohamed for Interior CS it may work or not work. The final prerogative lies with His Excellency the President," Manduku stated.

Has Kindiki resigned as CS On Kindiki's status, Manduku hinted that the CS might have already stepped down from his position quietly following his approval by MPs. According to Manduku, there is no requirement for the Cabinet Secretary to make his resignation public. "Resignation is a private affair. He probably wrote a resignation to the president it doesn't have to be made public. Which law says once a Cabinet Secretary resigns, it must be made public?" Manduku posed.
