Man dies after being crushed by crane in Naivasha
A 31 year old man died on the spot after a cement crane fell and crushed him at a construction site in Naivasha town.
The incident which occurred Friday afternoon sent cold shivers among the workers as they come to terms with the death of their colleagues.
Police investigators who visited the scene combed every detail to ascertain the cause of his death even as nearby residents put blame on the rapid nature of construction which could have exhausted the construction machines leading to the fatal incident.
The building whose construction is ongoing is being built at the old KANU grounds which for years has been contested leading to forceful evictions of traders before.
The two floor building whose construction started a few months ago has seen its management open part of it hosting a supermarket as construction continues which goes against county bylaws.
According to one resident, David Chege, the unfortunate death of the young man occurred after a cement crane which he was operating broke down and crumbled on him killing him instantly.
Chege blamed the rapid construction which has been ongoing day and nights putting pressure on construction equipment noting that the management should compensate the deceased family.
Chege said the government should investigate the cause of the man death and ensure that the management adheres to all regulations including ensuring that all the construction machines are above board to avoid such fatal incident in future.
On her part, Alice Nduta, a town resident also blamed the rapid construction of the building which she said exposed the tens of workers to danger.
The body of the man was taken to Naivasha Level Hospital mortuary as police sought details of his family to communicate his demise.
