Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong'o

Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong'o was seen fighting back tears at the BFI London Film Festival revealing she has never watched Marvel's Black Panther since the passing of her co-star and the film's lead character Chadwick Boseman.

Lupita who was seated on stage with the events' moderator Grace Barber-Plentie, got super emotional after a clip from the high grossing MCU film was broadcast on the huge screen as part of a video montage highlighting the actress's career and achievements over the years.

Watching sampled cuts from the film, Lupita, in a now trending video, was seen chocking back tears as she stared at the screen and with time eventually giving in to her emotions as grief enveloped her.

Grace courteously consoled the Hollywood star as she sought to find out if the 41-year-old Emmy actress would prefer if they skipped the 2018 film and move to a different one. Still seating with her emotions, Lupita to everyone's surprise declined the offer.

“The grief is just the love with no place to put it. I don’t run away from the tears or the grief. You just live with it. That experience will never be separate,” Lupita emotionally said soon as she had composed herself.

Further expounding on the emotional moment the actress added, “I don’t know whether I’ll ever be done shedding my tears from losing my friend, but I’m also like, wow, we get to see him [in the film]. We get to see him alive. And that’s so wonderful.”

Chadwick who revolutionized the MCU franchise with his role as King T'Challa in the Disney-Marvel film which ultimately became the productions highest grossing film in the first Week, passed away in 2020 while aged  43. He had secretly been battling colon cancer for 4 years.

In the morning of August 29, 2020, his family, through his socials announced the sad news in a lengthy post which in part read, "it's with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.

A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.

It was the honour of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. The family thanks you for your love and prayers,"

The film broke records by being the first superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination, and the first MCU film to win an Academy Award. It also lead to the lifting of a nearly-30-year-old ban on cinemas in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December 2017 with its first public viewing being on April 18, 2018.
